The town of
Mazama Washington is a small village resting at the foot of the Cascade
Mountain range in the Methow Valley, has a population of 230.
Year round recreation from fly fishing
to heli-skiing draws many visitors to this scenic location. The area offers
cross country skiing, fishing, rafting, hunting, hiking, camping, biking,
mountain climbing or just a simple vacation of peaceful relaxation. There
are many fine lodging establishments in the area, from rustic cabin rentals
to fine Inns.
During winter months the big recreational
sport in the area is cross country skiing, both classic and skate. There
are 120 miles of groomed Nordic trails, one of the largest Nordic centers
in the world, covers the gamut from level ground to heart thumping exercise.
Trails are maintained year round by the Methow Valley Sport Trails Association,
these trails were created in partnership with the Okanogan National Forest,
several state agencies and scores of private landowners. Like a spider's
web, machine groomed trails crisscross the valley up to Sun Mountain, Rendezvous
Mountain and Mazama, held together by the Methow Community Trail that runs
smack down the middle. Each area of trail has its own personality and challenges,
and sometimes even its own weather.
