The rodeo event that distinguishes the
Omak Stampede will return again this August. The famous Omak rodeo and
suicide race, in which about 40 riders and their horses charge down a high,
steep embankment into and cross the Okanogan River. Indian riders make
up most of the contestants in the race, which is a main attraction for
this five-day rodeo extravaganza. Typically, the Omak Stampede event draws
25,000 to 30,000 people into the Omak area, a town of 4,000. The Omak stampede
rodeo generates millions of dollars for the local economy and is the largest
annual event in Okanogan County. Omak Stampede and World Famous Suicide
