The frontier
town of Winthrop Washington with it's old wooden sidewalks has a population
of 400 or so. Winthrop is a very popular destination for visitors from
all around the country. Downtown Winthrop is very quaint with an old out
west feel and appearance. Despite it's small size, it accommodates hundreds
of thousands of visitors each year. Walk down main street for a taste of
the old West frontier! What keeps the crowds coming are not just the great
shops and ice cream cones, the Winthrop area offers a huge variety of outdoor
activities. The area offers 150 miles of trails, busy with bikers, hikers
and horse back riders during the summer months. Mountain bikers can
hit the trails and seemly go on forever. Hikers and trail runners also
use these same paths, so summer time can mean some trail sharing. Cross
country skiers and snow shoers leave their tracks during the winter months.
One can Ski from Winthrop over to Mazama, Sun Mountain and onward. There
are many great fishing and hunting area's within a short drive of Winthrop.
Winthrop Washington is located 200 miles northeast of Seattle.
